1I want to order a cake or other desserts. How do I place an order?
The best way to start the process is to send an email from the contact page. Please have the basic information ready when inquiring. Important details to include are your name, phone number, email, number of guests, cake flavor and filling (which you can find under menu), delivery address if being delivered, and any additional pictures or inspiration you have. Once that is sent over, you should receive a reply within 1-3 business days
2Why are custom cakes so expensive? And why can't I find any pricing on your website?
Custom cakes and treats are handmade to order. There is a lot of time and energy put into creating these amazing cakes! The simplest and smallest of cakes can take at least 4-5 hours from start to finish. I use high quality ingredients, and often cake supplies and products are expensive to begin with. Most likely I will add details on your cake that need special products, like gold leafing, or an intricate mold specifically for your order. There is no pricing on the website because its impossible to price out custom desserts without all the details. No one cake is the same. The main factors that determine the price of the cake are number of servings, flavor/ filling of cake, and the amount of detail. Once you send over all the information I will gladly send you a quote!
3How long in advance do I need to place my order?
We usually request a 10-14 day lead time. This way I can have time to prepare for your cake as well as source any items we will need for your order. Every once in awhile I will be available for last minute requests but its entirely up to the work load I already have confirmed and scheduled. Even for last minute cakes, please keep in mind that I do not own a magical bakery. Cakes still take time to bake, cool, frost, and decorate.
4Why can't I find your location?
Our location is not listed because Chubby Cheek Cakes is not a store front. I have a cake studio at my home. Once your order is confirmed, I will send you the address for pick up. I am located in North East Los Angeles close to Glendale.
5Is my deposit non-refundable?
There will be a minimum 15% fee of total on cancellations. The only way to confirm your order is with a deposit or to pay in full. Once I have received your confirmed order, I block off that time to complete your cake, which means I am no longer available for other orders. I will begin preparing for your order right away (emails or phone calls back and forth, sourcing material, drawing a sketch and start making decorations). On last minute cancellations (4 days or less), your deposit will be considered credit for a future order and no refund will be issued.
6I've sent an email but haven't heard back yet. Why haven't I been contacted?
As much as I like to get back to everyone right away, I have to remind everyone to please be patient as I am a one woman show. Most weekends I am neck deep into cake, buttercream, pick ups and deliveries. I try my best to get back to everyone between Monday-Wednesday. I am rarely available to answer phone calls and emails about new orders during Thursday-Sunday. If you have already sent me an email and haven't heard back, please send me a gentle reminder!
7I am already ordering a cake, why do I need to pay extra for delivery?
Delivery isn't as simple as putting a cake in my car and dropping it off. It is not the same as delivering a cardboard package. A lot of extra time, care, detail and costs have to go into the process of safely delivering a cake to your event. Any time I am delivering a cake, that means I cannot work on any other orders. You are always welcomed to pick up your cake as well. I will of course help set it up in your car and give you my best practices for safely getting your cake back to your event.
8Do I need to refrigerate the cake or cupcakes?
This really depends on the current forecast and the type of filling in your dessert. Most cupcakes should not be refrigerated. They will stay fresh for up to 3-4 days at room temperature. Make sure to keep in box or have them tightly stored in plastic wrap or a a sealed container. Cakes are a bit more temperamental. If the filling has any fresh fruit, cream cheese, Chantilly/ whipping cream, or pastry cream your cake will need to be refrigerated until a few hours before your event. All other cakes can be left out at room temperature for immediate use. If it is a hot day and sun is shining make sure your cake is refrigerated until the start of your event. Under no circumstances should you have your cake be directly under the sun. Even the best crafted cakes will begin to melt under the sun. Any left overs can be tightly wrapped with plastic wrap and be refrigerated. Your cake will stay fresh for up to 3-4 days.
